The province of Loja, which has than ten thousand square kilometers, has an irregular topography, thus, generating great variety of climates and microclimates which go from dry tropical to Andean temperate climate. Many rivers and abundant valleys turn it  into  a unique ecological mosaic where specimens of flora and fauna coexist, especially a great number of birds, among them “pájaro chilalo” stands out. This bird sings in a peculiar way at six in the morning and a five in the afternoon, indicating to farmers the beginning and end of their working day.

The Pacific Hornero “chilalo or hornero” is the most outstanding and you can see everywhere and in the downtown. The distinctive feature that characterizes this bird is his nest that is made from mud, and is quite big.
