Distribution.
Koepcke´s Screech-Owl. Birds Loja Ecuador.- A very small screech Owl found in deciduous woodland and forest as well as scrub – sometimes surprisingly sparse – in lowlands and foothills of southwest. Has been called Peruvian Screech Owl. In the Loja city is found in its sourroundings in secondary ande scrub vegetation as Argelia Park.
 
Description.
19 – 20,5 cm (7.5 – 18″)
Ear-tufts short; iris yellow. Both morphs look relatively uniform. Gray morph gray above with black and buffy whitish mottling and vermiculations; facial area grayish withblackish rim indistinct; white spots on scapulars and wing-coverts. Below whitish with dense herringbone pattern of blackish streaks and cross-hatching. Relatively rare rufous morph mainly rufescent, with patterning much as in gray morph. Habits.
Inhabiting similar semiopen and lightly wooded habitat.
 
Voice:
Male songs a fast, low-pitched but rising churring trill that last 2-4 seconds, increasing in volume before fading toward abrupt end. Koepcke´s Screech-Owl  Birds Loja Ecuador.
