Birdwatching Trip Report Southern Ecuador 2019.

Date: September 1 to 13th.
Tapichalaca Reserve (2500 m- 8200 feets),  Zamora Chinchipe Province – Bombuscaro River – Podocarpus National Park - Copalinga Reserve (900 m - 2950 feets.); Yankuam – Nangaritza River – Maycu Reserve (850 meters);  Saraguro: Cloud Forets (2400 -3200 m) Acacana: 3400 m. 11154 feets; and Cerro de Arcos: 3600 m. - 11811 feets. Buenaventura Reserve - Choco Region: (500-1300 m, 1640-4265 feets).

September 1. Arrival to the Catamayo airport and head to the Tapichalaca Reserve, including Cerro Toledo.
Our Trip begans from Catamayo where is the Airport, and few minutes later we decided to do a briefly stop and sorprisely was the right place to see the first couple of Peruvian-pygmy Owl (the 2 morphs), and other birds such as Pacific Parrotlets, Loja Hummingbirds, Collared Antshrike, Tawny-crowned Pygmy Tyrant, Tropical Gnatcatcher, Boat-billed Flycatcher, TumbesSparrow. Line-cheecked Spinetail, Golden-olive Woodpecker.
Cerro Toledo: In spite to have a little of bad wheather conditions we saw our target bird, Neblina Metaltail, Paramo Tapaculo (heard).
September 2.Tapichalaca Reserve.
Remarkable Birds: Jocotoco Antpitta, Chestnut-naped Antpitta, Undulated Antpitta, Rufous Antpitta, Slate-crowned Antpitta, Black-thraoted Tody Tyrant, Orange-banded Flycatcher, Rufous-crowned tody Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Chat Tyrant Dusky Piha, Bearded Guan, White-throated Qual Dove, Smoky-brown, bar bellied and Crimson-mantled Woodpeckers; Slaty Finch, Plain-tailed Wren, Black-capped Hemispingus, Lacrimose, Grass-green, buff-breasted, Silver-backed, Blue-necked, Green-and-gold, Golden-eared, Buff-breasted, and Scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanagers, Blue Dacnis, Green Honeycreeper, bananaquit, Chestnut-capped and Yellow breasted Brush-Finchs, Russet-crowned, Black-crested and Three-banded Warblers.
Others: Chestnut-breasted Coronetm Collared Inca,
Rufous-fronted Thornbird, Yellow-cheeked Becard, Inca Jay, Red headed Barbet, Duida Woodcreeper,Olivaceous woodcreeper, Lined Antshrike
September 3.
Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, Roadside hawk, Gray-breasted Mountain Toucan, Ash-colored Tapaculo, Chusquea Tapaculo, Blackish Tapaculo, Green and Black Fruiteater, Barred Becard, Hooded-mountain Tanager, Barred Fruiteater.
Lower section: way to Loja. On the way to Copalinga: Pale-vented Pigeon.Palm Tanager, Blue-gray tanager, Gray Tinamou, Sickle-winged Guan.
September 4.
Band-bellied Owl, Common Pauraque, Blackish Nightjar, Gray-chinned Hermit, Green Hermit, Fork-tailed Woodnymph, Booted-Racket Tail, Speckled Chachalaca, Black Caracara, White-eyed Parakeet, White-necked Parakeet; Broad-billed Motmot, Black-streaked Puffbird, Lanceolated Monklet, Lineated Woodpecker; Black-billed Treehunter,Plain Antvireo, White-crowned Tapaculo (h), Tropical Kingbird, Andean Cock-of-the Rock, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Stripped, white-crowned and Golden-headed Manakins, Olivaceous Greenlet, Violaceous and Inca Jays, Swallows, Wrens. Lots of tanagers, Fulvous-shrike, Orange-eared, blue-neck, Paradise, Golden eared, green-and-gold, and golden Tanagers, Green Honeycreepers; thick-billed and Orange-bellied Euphonias, and many other birds.
September 5. Copalinga - Yankuam - Maycu Reserve.
Yellow-breasted Antwren, Foorhill Antwren, Fiery-throated Fruiteater, Scarlet-breasted Fruiteater, Andean Solitaire,chestnut-bellied thrush and others,.
Swallow and Plumbeous Kite, Roadside hawk, Yellow headed Caracara, Bat Falcon, Gray-rumped Swift, White-collared Swift, Striped-Throated Hermit, Wiire-crested Thorntail,chestnut-bresated Coronet, Violet-fronted Brilliant, Violet-headed Hummingbird and others; Lafresnaye`s Piculet, Yellow-tufted Woodpecker, Ash-browed Spinetail, Montane-foliage Gleaner, Black-billed treehunter; olivaceous and Wedge-billed Woodcreepers; Amazonian, Blue-crowned, Green-backed and Collared Trogons; Foothill Antwren, Foothill Elaenia;Ecuadorian Tyrannulet, Slaty Capped Flycatcher, Black-and-white Tody-Flycatcher, White-bellied Pygmy Tyrant, Black Phoebe, Long-tailed Tyrant, Golden-crowned Flycatcher; Fiery-throated Fruiteater; Olivaceous Greenlet, White-winged Becard, Foothill Schiffornis, Sourthern Rough-winged Swallow, White-breasted Wood-Wren; Among antshrikes: Plain-winged Antshrikes and many others, Spot-backed Antbird, Peruvian-warbling Antbird and others; White-flanked Antwren and others. Orange-throated Tanager and ohers; Red-crested Finch;yellow-throated and Asy-throated Chlorospingus;Crested-and Russet-backed Oropendolas.


September 9 - 10. Saraguro - Acacana - Cerro de Arcos.
Crescent-faced Antpitta, Golden-crowned Tanager, Plushcap, Blue-throated Hillstar,
September 11 to 13th. Buenaventura Reserve..
The most remarkable Birds: Rufous-headaed Chachalaca and Crested Guan, Chestnut-mandibled and Choco Toucans, Pale-mandibled Aracari. White-tailed Trogon. Barred Puffbird, Scaled Fruiteater, Ochraceous Attila, El Oro Parakeet, Gray-back and gray-lined Hawks, Lots of Hummingbirds, Woodpeckers and  Tanagers.
