I would like to give to know you and share the birds we can see on a trip which begin from Catamayo Airport on your arrival from Quito or Guayaquil, pues on our tour to any of the birding places as Buenaventura Reserve, Copalinga or Tapichalaca Reserve. Is here where we can have the opportunity to look some birds before continuing our trip.
Catamayo Town is located at southern Ecuador. It has hot climate, and the average temperature is between 20 and 25 oC. The valley is at 1700 and 500 meters above sea level. Most of their lands are used to grow up sugarcane; also here is the plant of production of sugar called Monterrey.
The vegetation that characterize to the catamayo valley is Matorral Seco Montano (ms-M). Scrubland Dry Montano, and is dominated mostly by bushy vegetation.
Characteristic Vegetation: Acacia macracantha, Cybistax antisyphilitica (Bignoniaceae); Capparisscabrida (Capparaceae); Dodonaea viscosa (Sapindaceae); Echinopsis pachanoi (Cactaceae); Calliandra angustifolia, Mimosa quitensis (Mimosaceae); Cyathostegia mathewsii, Centrosema virginianum, Desmodium intortum (Fabaceae); Puya lanata (Bromeliaceae); Wigandia crispa (Hydrophyllaceae); Croton sp., Euphorbia sp., Jatropha cf. nudicaulis (Euphorbiaceae); Annona cherimola (Annonaceae); Cantua quercifolia (Polemoniaceae); Byttneria fl exuosa (Sterculiaceae); Marsdenia cundurango (Asclepiadaceae).Spartium junceum, Caesalpinia spinosa, Marsdenia cundurango, Agave americana, Fourcraea gigantea, Salvia hirta, Croton wagneri, Jatropha curcas.
As this region makes part of the tumbesian region, therefore this habitat contains some of the bird species that characterize them.
Here we can see some birds such as Peruvian Pygmy Owl, Croaking Ground-Dove, Pacific Parrotlet, Loja Hummingbird, Tumbes Hummingbird, Pacific Hornero , Collared Antshrike, Southern Beardless-Tyrannulet , Long-tailed Mockingbird , White-crested Elaenia , White-throated Tyrannulet , Vermilion Flycatcher, Gray-breasted Martin, Blue-and-white Swallow, Fasciated Wren, Blue-black Grassquit, Scrub Blackbird, Groove–billed Ani, Tawny-crowned Pygmy-Tyrant, Tropical Gnatcatcher, Blue-gray Tanager, Elegant Crescentchest and others.
On the way while we head to Loja City could be possible to find also birds such as Green-tailed Trainbearer, Purple-throated Sunangel, and already arriving to Loja could be possible to see Peruvian Meadowlark.
